Steam Engine
This display features a fully functioning 1920's steam engine, cunningly
adapted to run on compressed air. The engine is primarily mounted on a linear 25
slide which is driven by an R50 belt drive. Additional support is provided by a
PS4-25 linear guide rail. This type of rail is normally only provided in lengths
of up to 2m and is very difficult to join but, using Item's
unique clamping method this is easily achievable. Support for this considerable
load is provided by the line 12 system, utilising sections up to 240x120mm and
M12 fasteners. In order to run, the engine has to dock precisely with a
compressed air supply at one end of its travel.
